一、No creature has received more praise and abuse than the common garden snail.

No company is more valuable than Apple in terms of market capitalization.

His teachers are full of praise for the progress he's making.

No other political figure in Chinese history receives more praise and abuse than the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty.

二、By having to sleep in the open, he gets far closer to the world of nature than most of us ever do.

1. By having to sleep in the open

2. Far closer to the world of nature than… Of the two the latter is far better than the former.

By falling prey to consumerism, many young people have spent far more money than they can get from work.

三、It has never been explained why university students seem to enjoy practical jokes more than anyone else.

1. It has never been explained: “誰也不知道,誰也不清楚”,It作形式主語,后面的主語從句why university students …

In England, jokes are only played in the morning as it is considered bad luck to play a practical joke on someone after noon.

It has never been explained whether a practical joke can hurt those who are joked with because they tend to laugh it off in order to avoid embarrassment.

四、Needless to say, the bigger the risk an insurance company takes, the higher the premium you will have to pay.

The problem, needless to say, is the cost involved. 意思相同的表達(dá)還有:it goes without saying that... 比如:It goes without saying that all travellers and their bags must be checked.

2. The bigger…, the higher: “越…,越…”,這個(gè)表達(dá)大家應(yīng)該很熟悉了,最簡單的就是:The more, the better.

Needless to say, the more we learn, the more we realize how much we don't know.

1. Much as we may pride ourselves on our good taste, … Although we may much pride ourselves on our good taste, ... ,原文中為強(qiáng)調(diào)much,用as引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句進(jìn)行倒裝。

2. Be free to do: “做某事很自由,無拘無束”,比如,You are free to come and go as you please.

3. Exert…on…: “對… Secondly, they involve exerting strict controls on the organisational and operational systems.
