Dr. Carolan's latest children's book, A President from Hawai'i, explores the birthplace of Barack Obama and some of the unique cultural aspects of growing up in the 50th State. A President from Hawai'i is aimed toward children ages 8 and up, and illustrates some of Hawaii's unique history. The book also introduces children to a number of Hawaiian words and concepts commonly used in Hawai'i. In addition to the well known concept of "aloha", the book also explores other aspects of Hawaiian culture such as "ko kua" (to help) and "lo kahi" (unity). Included are quotes from President Obama and photographs from his childhood. The original artwork, historical, and contemporary photographs are formatted collage-style, giving the book a feel of an "illustrated journal", which will appeal to older children and adults alike. The book includes an audio CD narrated by preeminent Hawaiian recording artist and 12-time Na Ho ku Hanohano award winner Amy Hanaiali'i, and includes her new single, These Islands. Amy is accompanied by Keli'i Kaneali'i, himself a 6-time Na Ho ku Hanohano award winner, on Hawaiian slackkey guitar.Dr. Carolan's latest children's book, A President from Hawai'i, explores the birthplace of Barack Obama and some of the unique cultural aspects of growing up in the 50th State.
