L3-08 The Egg Hunt
●Cover
Today we are gonna read this book, it is called The Egg Hunt. The egg hunt? Is it for
Easter? Yes, that’s right. Remember the Easter bunny? Yeah! Look, Wilma is hiding the eggs.
Wow, are they real eggs? But I think they look really small. No, they are chocolate eggs. That’s
right, they are chocolate eggs. Do you like Easter? Yes, I love it. This is one of my favorite
holidays. You know, first , you can boil some eggs, and then you decorate them, and then you can
hide them, and then it will take a long time for your family to find them out. I love it. But I like the
chocolate eggs better. Yes, that’s right, and let’s see what happens. Look, there is a bird, this bird is
really noisy, you know, that bird makes a KE-KE sound. Wow, isn’t it scary? Well, this bird is
called a magpie. In Chinese culture, we think this one presents good luck. OK? Let’s see what
happens.
●Page 1
Ding-dong, ding-dong. Here came Kate. Kate came to stay. Why is Kate coming? Well, Kate
comes to hang out for the day. Hang out for the day? I have only tried sleepover. That’s right, if
you want to spend the night with your friends, that’s called a sleepover. You need to bring a lot of
your own things. But if you just want to play with them during the day. That’s called hang out for
the day. Which one do you like? Sleepover! Can I stay with you 24*7? I will think about it. OK,
now look, Kate’s mum is giving this bag to Wilma’s mum. Probably that’s what Kate needs for the
day.

Mum and Kate made a cake. Wow, look, it is a rectangle cake. What flavor do you think it is?
Chocolate flavor! Good job! And there is cream. Yes! Do you like cream? No, I don’t like it. OK,
a lot of kids don’t like cream. And then they put some chicken shaped toppings on top. And Kate
put some little eggs on it. Look, bong, bong, bong. And I think there is a pattern, let’s see if we can
find out a pattern. Green, yellow, yellow, green, yellow, yellow, green...... Well, when you have a
pattern, that looks more beautiful. And next question, do you know how to make a cake? How to
make a cake? I don’t know. I just know how to eat a cake. Yes, that’s right, I know it. And I know
how to bake a cake. You need some flour. Flower? Flowers? Not flowers, flour. F-L-O-U-R, the
white powder made from wheat, OK? And then you need some milk, some sugar, some eggs, and
you stir and bake, ta-da, you will have a cake, it’s very easy! OK?
●Page 3
Alright. And then, look, daddy is drinking something from a very big mug. And, look, they
have so many mugs. And the mugs are hanged on the wall mug rack. One, two, three, four, five,
six...... so many. And they have a lot of knives too. Look, this one is called a cleaver. You use it to
cut meat. Bang, bang, bang. And this one is called bread knife. You use it to cut bread. And the
next one is called steak knife. You use it to...... And what about the last one? The last one is called
a chef’s knife. Different knives are used to cut different things. Complicated! Now what else can
you see in their kitchen? I love their kitchen, you know. There is a thermometer. What is a
thermometer? A thermometer can tell you the room temperature, whether it is too hot or too cold.
OK, now what’s this? I think that is a baking tray. Yes, that is right. That is a baking tray. And it is
upside down, OK? Now Wilma looked at the little eggs. Well, she had an idea. It looks like she got
a great idea. Well, and then mum is saying, good job, Kate! Look, you made our cake really
beautiful. OK.

And now, there they are. Dad took Wilma to the park. Wilma went to the park. She wanted to
hide some eggs. That seems fine. Now this is a beautiful park, you see lawn, and you see a statue,
this is a man playing some musical instrument, and there is a dog. And I see some little cute
squirrels. OK, now it is a beautiful spring day. So where should we hide the eggs? Where? Where
do you want to hide the eggs? I want to hide the eggs on top of the man. You mean on the head?
Then Kate will see it. That’s is too obvious. Can you find some other better place? Maybe in the
lawn. Yeah, you could, and also you see the bushes. Or maybe behind the base? Over there.
●Page 5
Let’s see. She put them in the trees. The little trees, look, look, you see so many, so many little
eggs. And she put them in the flowers. In the flowers, that is a really good place, right?
●Page 6
And ta-da! Wilf and Kate came to the park. Now you can look for eggs, said Wilma. Hey, wait
a minute, isn’t the squirrel taking away the egg? Oh, there is another one, there is another one. All
the squirrels are starting to pick the eggs. You’d better be quick, otherwise, they will take them
away.
●Page 7
It happened! Look, Kate looked for eggs. Where are they? She said. Hey, I remembered there
were a lot of eggs and where are they? Look, here is a squirrel, and the squirrel is pushing it up.
●Page 8
Well, I believe they have taken all the eggs, three squirrels quickly moved all the eggs into
their own home. So the squirrels had them. There you go. Squirrels likes eggs, said Kate. Well,
everyone likes chocolate, right? That makes you happy.
●Page 9
But, so do I. She said. What does this mean? This means I like the eggs too. And then Wilma’s
dad and mum bought some bigger eggs. Look, so big! Much, much bigger than the other ones.
These are the small ones, probably just for the squirrels. And now they have a big one. And then
Kate is unwrapping it. The wrapping paper is very thin, right? They have colorful wrapping paper.
Is that Kate’s mum? Yes, Kate’s mum is coming. I think Kate has had a wonderful day. And in the
end, she has such a big chocolate egg. I want one. Susan, you can’t eat it. Why can’t I have one?
Because it will make you fat. Alright, I will not eat it.

Anyway, let’s read it. Susan, what do you like to do on Easter? Well, I like to decorate the eggs.
What about you? I like to eat them. I know.
