Marie Curie was a famous scientist, and she was one of the most significant scientists in that time and now.
She was born in Poland, and back then Poland was ruled by 3 countries and she was born in the part that was controlled by Russa. When she was in school, she was not allowed to speak Polish, but she was also good at Russian and 3 more languages other than Russian and Polish. Her dad was a science teacher and his mom was a school principle. She was curious about science since she small, and she was also the best student in the school.
After graduate from her school, she want to go to college, but she can’t because that collage don’t accept women and also, her brother was at collage then and her family can’t afford two kids go to college at once so she waited. Then, she made a deal with her sister that her sister went to college firstly and then she make money for her by teaching other rich family’s kids. She fell in love with the first family’s oldest son, but they didn’t marry.
Later she went to the French college and got a perfect grade and graduated the fastest.
After that, she wanted to have a good place to discover more things, but there are no good instruments to study, so she know another scientist who have good instruments. When they saw each other, they fell in love and married soon after.
They worked together and found two new elements, Radium and Polonium. They also got their first kid after they married. They tried to get more respect from the world, but they don’t want to give her the respect that men got. She can’t join the science academy. Later, she became more and more famous and won her first Nobel Price. Then, she got more and more attentions. But some sad things happened, her husband died in an accident in 1906, she become very sad and sick, but later she recovered and took over her husband’s job in the collage. After having a hard time, she finally recovered from that. She started to work again and got her second Nobel Price.
?She finally got a clean place to live, but meanwhile, the WWI broke out, so she need to hide all the Radium away from Germany. Later, she got some bad newspaper and social medias saying she was not doing good things, so she need to hide from people.
After that, she went back to work with her daughter. When they were in the lab together, they got a helper that later married Curie’s daughter. They got 2 children and they both become scientists. Later in July, 1934, Curie died from the Radioactive element that they work with, she was buried next to her husband, and she later was move to the place where all the important people buried in.?
She was important because she did so many things while being a female, she was not only just a scientist, but also thinking about gender equality.?
