The underground railroad saved the life of thousands of black slaves. It all started when there are some black people kidnapped from West Africa and sent to America in 1690. Later when more and more slaves were sent to American, there started to be some people who think that there should be fairer rights for blacks, so they created the free states where slavery was illegal and slaves can be free black people, but how can black slaves go to the North free states, there’s where the underground railroad works. The railroad was actually not a railroad, but it’s actually a link of safe houses that will lead the slaves to the north. In the south, the importance of the safe houses was that there are slave hunters who’s looking escaped slaves. Many slaves got there way to the north by hiding in boxes and ride steam boats to the north or just simply ride the horse car of the kind white men. Some went to the northern states and became free people but still having small chance to be kidnapped and send to the south, or go up north to Canada to became a free people with no fear, but it will take longer to reach. There are many famous cases of escaping for example the escape of Harriet Tubman and Henry Brown. Harriet Tubman was escaped by living in safe houses one by one and eventually reach the north and went back to the south to safe more slaves. The story of Henry Brown was that he hides inside a shipping box and shipped to the north where he can be a free person. There are also much more exciting stories about the underground railroad, every escaped person will create a story, and there are thousands of stories with it, and there’s also many failed attempts and stories about these attempts. So come to freedom, the cost was big.?
