故事講述了一只小母雞從播種、收割、磨麥粉到做面包的整個過程，在此過程中她請求dog、cat、mouse等朋友幫忙，但他們的回答是：“NOT I”，可最后面包做好了，他們卻要分享成果。小母雞會同意么？
故事中不斷重復(fù)“請求幫助”、“拒絕別人的要求”，“自己可以做”。
