Black Beauty

Creative writing - Write a 300-500 word description of an environment from an animal's point of view (for example, you could describe the streets of Delhi from a monkey's viewpoint).  (Success Criteria: Varied sentence structure, interesting vocabulary, accurate and varied punctuation, language and structural techniques.

I am a monkey that once lived in a lush green forest, with all kinds of plants and animals around me.  Every morning, I wake up with the bustling sounds of the foreset:  birds singing, insects chirping, the creek rushing along the hills, and sometimes the raindrops dancing among the leaves.  Every night, I go to bed with the moon and stars looking down at me.  The forest is truly a wonderful heaven.  

But now things have changed.  Humans with sharp tools and huge monsters (trucks, bulldozers..) invaded.  They cut down all the trees and destroyed our home.  I was captured cause I have nowhere to go, and I was carried to a place called zoo.  This place is like a prison to me.  There are few trees and the ground is hard and dry, not at all like the soft grass and moist soil of the forest.  

Each day hundreds of people visit me, and most of them just stare at me, laughing and pointing.  They are so noisy that I couldn't rest at all.  Could you do that if there are dozens of people shouting at the top of their lungs around you?  Only a few children seem to sympathize with me, but I don't think they did anything to help me.  The most confusing thing is that every time I tried to escape, I keep banging my head onto something invisible.  I realised that there is no escape. 

The only good thing about the zoo is that I never go hungry.  A man would put down a bowl of food three times a day, keeping me well fed indeed.  I never have to worry where to get my next meal.  But I always long to be free, to be back in the forest, to be a real monkey.Black Beauty
