根據(jù)語言學(xué)家Stephen Krashen(斯蒂芬·克拉申)的可理解假說,我們是通過理解稍微超出當(dāng)前語言水平的輸入來習(xí)得語言,也就是他理論中的i+1,i代表當(dāng)前語言水平,i+1代表稍微難一點(diǎn)的下一階段,為了能發(fā)展到下一階段,需要理解包含作為下一階段(i+1)一部分結(jié)構(gòu)的輸入語言。
“This hypothesis states simply that we acquire (not learn) language by understanding input that is a little beyond our current level of (acquired) competence.” ;“The input hypothesis states that in order for acquirers to progress to the next stages in the acquisition of the target language, they need to understand input language that includes a structure that is part of the next stage. ”;“To state the hypothesis a bit more formally, an acquirer can "move" from a stage i (where i is the acquirer's level of competence) to a stage i+1(where i+1 is the stage immediately following i along some natural order) by understanding language containing i+1. This technical definition will be of use to us in later discussions.”(P 32)
