Heart Stopper precisely and vividly describes the little boy's mixed feelings, the mounting excitement and the sincere regret, just before the curtains go up. The young leading actor's train of thought suddenly stretches back to the days when his previous life seemed "so much simpler". 

Heart Stopper 

I'm standing on the stage, 
The play's about to start, 
And the only sound I hear 
Is the pounding of my heart. 

It was everything I wanted_ 
My fantasy...my goal. 
So I tried out for this play 
And I got the leading role. 

I learned my lines, I practiced. 
I came so very far, 
I dreamed about this moment__ 
I was going to be the STAR! 

So there I am on stage, 
And the play's about to start. 
My life was so much simpler 
Before I got this part. 

On the stage the boy eventually comes to the realization that he no longer lives in the past. As a result, he appears to have developed a sense of self-pity and nervousness, which might bug him sparadically for some time. 

The poem also delivers an important message to all the little boys and girls: We can never get anything for nothing! That means we can't have our cake and eat it: We can't have two good things at the same time. Everybody could be a star with a bit of luck. In most cases, however, stardom or celebrity would throw us into a much more complicated life we have to handle. The possible cost: losing a big chunk of our freedom or privacy. 

Therefore, please look before you leap when making a major decision in life.
