精讀peas系列繪本（Keith Baker）

趁著孩子還是字母沉迷期，應(yīng)該好好把家里的ABC books一本本地精讀了。

先從Keith Baker的little peas這個系列入手。字母、數(shù)字都做得非?？蓯郏€有一本關(guān)于顏色的《Little Green Peas》，確實(shí)是很好的認(rèn)知繪本系列。

We are peas — alphabet peas!

我們是小豆子 —— 字母表小豆子！

We work and play in the ABCs.

我們在ABC中工作和玩耍。

We’re acrobats, artists, and astronauts in space.

我們是雜技演員，藝術(shù)家，和太空中的宇航員。

【注】acrobat和astronaut在寶寶繪本中出現(xiàn)頻率很高，例如acrobat在《brain quest 2-3yrs》中就有出現(xiàn)；astronaut在《My Mom》有出現(xiàn)，在Peppa Pig中也有。所以不要用“我覺得這個詞不常用”這些思維來衡量寶寶繪本上的單詞，寶寶早點(diǎn)接觸多多重復(fù)是很有必要的。

We’re builders, bathers, and bikers in a race.

我們是建筑工人，洗澡的人，和自行車賽選手。

【注】bather在英式英語里還有游泳者的意思，即swimmer。但是peas系列的作者是美國人，從圖上看小豆子們也在洗泡泡浴，所以此處翻譯為洗澡的人。

We’re climbers, campers, and he’s a circus clown.

我們是登山者，野營者，他還是馬戲團(tuán)里的小丑。

We’re dancers — Can you dig it? — and drivers round the town.

我們是舞蹈家——你能瞧見他嗎？——和滿城的司機(jī)。

【注】dig比較常用的意思是“挖，掘”，但是圖上并沒有相關(guān)的內(nèi)容；這里dig是美國口語（AmE colloquial dated）的用法，相當(dāng)于look at。

We’re eaters, electricians, and explorers searching land.

我們是老饕，電工，和陸地探險家。

【注】eater的中文意思是“吃……的人”，例如fish eater，吃魚的人。英文解釋是a person or animal that consumes food in a specified way or of a specified kind。但是放在這里不太好直接翻譯，就選了個中文里的褒義詞老饕，現(xiàn)在指那些特別會吃，對美食文化、傳統(tǒng)很了解的食客。

We’re farmers, flaggers, and best friends in a band.

我們是農(nóng)民，搖旗的人，也是一起組樂隊的死黨。

We’re gardeners, gigglers, givers and takers.

我們是園丁，傻笑的人，（禮物的）給予者和接受者。

We’re hikers, inventors, and investigators.

我們是遠(yuǎn)足者，發(fā)明者，和調(diào)查者。

We’re judges and jugglers — Dishes! Pins! And rings!

我們是法官和雜技演員——盤子！瓶子！和雜耍圈！

【注】juggler特指拋接雜技演員（an entertainer who continuously tosses into the air and catches a number of objects so as to keep at least one in the air while handling the others），acrobat則是技巧類雜技演員（an entertainer who performs gymnastic feats.)。

We’re kickers, kayakers, and some of us are kings.

我們是踢球者，劃船者，我們其中的有些人還是國王。

【注】kayak是獨(dú)木舟（a canoe of a type used originally by the Inuit, made of a light frame with a watertight covering having a small opening in the top to sit in.），kayaker是劃獨(dú)木舟的人。kayaking這個詞在《Early Words Sticker Book》中也出現(xiàn)了。

We’re listeners, miners, and neighbors right next door.

我們是聽眾，礦工，和隔壁的鄰居。

We’re nurses, officers, and outlaws taking more.

我們是護(hù)士，警察，和貪得無厭的亡命徒。

We’re painters, poets, and plumbers fixing leaks.

我們是油漆工，詩人，和修理漏水的水管工。

【注】painter當(dāng)然也有畫家的意思，但是根據(jù)這個繪本上的圖，這里是油漆工。

We’re pilots, parachutists, we’re peas and …we’re unique!

我們是飛行員，跳傘者，我們是小豆紙并且……我們獨(dú)一無二！

We’re quilters, quarterbacks, and readers — next page please.

我們是縫紉工匠，四分衛(wèi)，和讀者——請翻到下一頁。

【注】quarterback專指美式橄欖球的四分衛(wèi)。

We’re scientists, swimmers, and sailors on the seas.

我們是科學(xué)家，游泳者，和大海上的海員。

We’re truckers, teachers — Everyone look here!

我們是貨車司機(jī)，老師——所有人看這里！

We’re underwater divers — voters, vets, and volunteers.

我們是潛水者——投票人，獸醫(yī)，和志愿者。

We’re weavers, wishers, and X-ray doctors, too.

我們是織布匠，祝愿者，也是X光片醫(yī)生。

【注】wish是祝愿祝福的意思，wisher是祝愿者。well-wisher: a person who desires happiness or success for another, or who expresses such a desire.

We’re yogis in a pose, and …zoologists — that’s who!

我們是練瑜伽的人，和……動物學(xué)家——那是誰！

We are peas from A to Z.

我們是從A到Z的小豆子。

Now tell us, please …WHO ARE YOU?

現(xiàn)在請告訴我們，你是誰呢？
